Kolot Shabbat – A Montgomery County Musical Shabbat

Kolot Shabbat – A Montgomery County Musical Shabbat
Join us for our first Kolot Shabbat afternoon! This is a family-friendly Shabbat sing-along led by Debi Roemer, Rabbi Miriam Hoffman, and other local musicians. We will have some small instruments for kids, but please feel free to bring any musical instruments you want and join in on the fun! This program is geared towards families with young children, grandparents welcome! **If it is raining, we will instead be at the Am Kolel Center on Wilmart St** -- Debi Roemer's bio: Growing up in Silver Spring, MD as the daughter of a cantor and from a family of musicians, my childhood was infused with Jewish music and all the positivity that came with it. I learned the arts of compassion and healing through music and movement from my community. In addition to being an early childhood music educator and enjoying the gifts of music, I come from the healing arts in dance, movement and therapeutic bodywork. After traveling the globe over a number of years, immersing myself in amazing communities and cultures, I returned to the DC area where I currently live, with my delightful kids and adorable puppy.

Tikvat Israel RainScape Beginnings

Tikvat Israel RainScape Beginnings
Join us as we prepare the grounds for our RainScape! A RainScape is a landscape design technique that helps reduce stormwater runoff. Since we are located next to Rock Creek we want to prevent stormwater and pollution from flowing into storm drains and the nearby stream. In the fall, we will be bringing our vision to life by planting various native plant species that will help trap the water runoff from the roof and let it soak into the ground instead of flowing into the parking lot and down the hill into the creek. But in order to be successful in the fall, we need to prepare the ground now in the spring! We will be spreading a thin layer of compost and then a thicker layer of woodchips on top. By the time we're ready to plant this fall, the ground will be well prepared, and our chances of success will be that much greater. Come out this Sunday (4/12) for some gardening and good cheer :) Garden rakes and equipment will be provided, but bring your own if you feel inclined. This event will start at 9am and go until 1pm. Look for us in the front parking lot next to the playground!

Good Deeds Day at Oseh Shalom

Good Deeds Day at Oseh Shalom
After our Tikkun Olam (Repair the World) Assembly, children, teens, and adult helpers will make Earth balls filled with native plant seeds to increase bird, bee and butterfly populations. Children will also create puddlers to help sustain butterfly populations while learning more about these important topics. We will work with Blankets of Hope to provide free blankets and cards for our local homeless shelter residents. Each activity will include a learning component. Community members (age 3 and up) welcome. RSVPs encouraged to oseheddirector@gmail.com.

Through music, movement, and play, we’ll explore how even the smallest hands can make a big difference in the lives of our animal friends. This program is perfect for curious kids who love to build, play, and learn about the world around them.
