Sue Ducat
Enabling Jews to live fuller lives.
Sue was raised in New York. Her parents were born in Europe and escaped to the United States before the bombing of Pearl Harbor. Her interest in Jewish life was sparked when she met her husband, Stan Cohen, z”l. Stan served a range of Jewish organizations, including on the board of Adas Israel Congregation (as did Sue) and of two Jewish day schools.
Sue feels passionately about remembering the lessons of the Holocaust, as did Stan, who helped organize Yom HaShoah (Holocaust Remembrance Day) remembrances and spoke on the subject. To honor Stan’s work, Sue established a scholarship for a deserving student to participate each year on the March of the Living.
Sue is driven by “the many ways you can express your commitment to being Jewish here” – whether it’s through schools, synagogues, leisure, learning centers, or cultural connections.
Sue continues to donate to Federation because it “enables Jews in this community, in Israel, and elsewhere to live fuller lives.”
Sue recalls how her daughter, now 29, still remembers Super Sunday marathons, raising money and strengthening our Jewish community by running completed pledge cards to be tallied, and helping instill the value of tzedakah (charitable giving).
Like many, Sue understands the toll COVID-19 pandemic has taken on the Jewish community. She notes, “I am thankful that we are blessed to be given the gift of once again coming together as a community in person as well as virtually.”
