For young adults to feel fulfilled and supported as they navigate life here, they need a place where they feel a sense of belonging. Helping young adults find that space within the Jewish community is so important and sets them up to achieve incredible things.

Photo of Sara ESara grew up with what she calls a “buffet of Jewish experiences.” Sara, who is from an interfaith family, often attended Chabad, and later became involved with BBYO and Hillel at GW Hillel as an undergrad (she later received a master’s degree at The Jewish Theological Seminary), where she received her degree. Sara brings these unique experiences and Jewish spaces into her work as Director of Jewish Student Life at GW Hillel.

Sara initially connected with Federation in 2019 by joining fellow 20s and 30s for events and opportunities including NEXUS, a leadership program to develop rising Jewish leaders seeking to build community and explore their Jewish values and philanthropy. Today, Sara believes her work with Next Gen has allowed her to help young adults find their sense of community, and she serves as Campaign Co-Chair of Federation’s Next Gen Board.

“DC is a wonderful, but sometimes overwhelming, city,” Sara says. “For young adults to feel fulfilled and supported as they navigate life here, they need a place where they feel a sense of belonging. Helping young adults find that space within the Jewish community is so important and sets them up to achieve incredible things.”

In addition to helping young people find their place in Jewish Greater Washington, Sara is passionate about creating an inclusive community, one that embraces Jewish people for who they are. “I hope that the Greater Washington Jewish community becomes your home, your support system, and gives you the tools to live a vibrant Jewish life.”
