I believe in the phrase ’from strength to strength’ [from the Hebrew phrase, Chazak, Chazak, V’nitchazek]. That is what I wish for our Jewish community. That it takes what it has learned and developed and continues to grow becoming stronger and more vibrant.

Our community recognizes where there are needs, and has taken the opportunity to try new programs and develop them.”

Our Jewish community has come a long way since Carol, her husband, and their two children moved to Northern Virginia 30 years ago. Carol explains that there was “not much of a Jewish presence” in her local community decades ago. She decided to help change that, ultimately serving as president of the now Pozez JCC of Northern Virginia, and later on The Jewish Federation’s Board of Directors. These days, Carol continues to serve in various volunteer capacities, including coordinating a monthly women’s Torah study group that attracts participants from across Greater Washington.

“It is important that the Jewish community knows there is an organization that supports Jews where they live,” Carol notes. “I [feel] strongly that I help inform the community about Federation’s work, and to do that, I need to financially support it as well.”

“I believe in the phrase ’from strength to strength’ [from the Hebrew phrase, Chazak, Chazak, V’nitchazek], continues Carol.

“That is what I wish for our Jewish community. That it takes what it has learned and developed and continues to grow, becoming stronger and more vibrant.”
