About Jimbo J
Jimbo J and Spa Band are a poetic hip hop band from Israel. They play a mixture of old school hip hop and funk, with modern rock influences. While their lyrics are considered to be sophisticated, their show is full of high energy and groove. The band members are Jimbo (rap and vocals), Itay K (drums), Roy D (bass guitar), and Uriah “Fingers” (electric guitar). All songs began as spoken word poems written in Hebrew by Jimbo, and were composed later by Jimbo and the band. The lyrics discuss a wide range of topics: The assembly line of life in Israel, the change of language and it’s meaning between generations, the outcomes of leaving the countryside in order to live in the big city, Israeli society’s collective memory, and more. Jimbo is an actor and a writer in the “Incubator theater company,” and one of the founders of the first spoken word label in Israel.
