Weekly Reflection – October 25, 2019: A Message from Gil Preuss

Nearly one year ago, 11 innocent people were murdered at the Tree of Life building in Pittsburgh. As we approach this solemn day, The Jewish Federation and the JCRC remain committed to continuing the fight against anti-Semitism and hate. We will continue to bring our community together – not only in times of crisis, but at all times. We will not let hate and violence define our community.

Last week, I had the opportunity to reflect, alongside Ron Halber of the JCRC and local activist Marnie Fienberg, on how our community came together in the wake of the attack and where we go from here. I invite you to watch a short video from that conversation here:

Our community will continue to take action to remember and honor the lives of Joyce Fienberg, Richard Gottfried, Rose Mallinger, Jerry Rabinowitz, Cecil Rosenthal, David Rosenthal, Bernice Simon, Sylvan Simon, Daniel Stein, Melvin Wax, and Irving Younger. May their memories be for a blessing.

On Sunday, we will gather virtually to honor and remember them. This communal pause is an opportunity to reflect and honor the memory of those we lost. It is also a chance to tap back into our sense of solidarity and bring it forward into the future. Please register to join us at shalomdc.org/pausewithpittsburgh.

Shabbat Shalom,
