This Is What Community in Action Looks Like

This week, as Israel marks its 77th year of independence and honors the memories of those who fought for its existence, we also remember the lives lost to terror attacks and the ongoing struggles that continue to shape Israel’s reality. The country is facing the devastating impact of wildfires, which have ravaged communities and displaced families across the country.

In the face of these trials, we find hope and solidarity in powerful expressions of connection, like this moving rendition of Chai—a song that has come to symbolize Israel’s resilience. This new collaboration, led by the Jewish Agency for Israel (JAFI), brings together Israeli artist Netta Barzilai, alongside survivors, new olim (immigrants), and youth, reminds us that we can come together and make a difference in the lives of so many Israelis. Through our ongoing partnership with JAFI, we continue to strengthen Israel’s society, supporting its people and their ability to rise above adversity, as they have done throughout its existence.

The strength of our community—here in Greater Washington and across the globe—lies in these connections. Through the stories we share, the support we offer one another, and our collective action, we continue to build a vibrant, resilient future for generations to come.

Thank you for being a part of this ongoing work. Together, we can ensure that our community remains strong and connected, ready to embrace our shared joys and face any challenges that lie ahead.

Something Inspiring Is on the Horizon

Real Help, Thanks to You
When Sarah lost her job at the Federal Trade Commission—no severance, no admin leave—she didn’t know how she’d make it through. But thanks to cash assistance from Federation’s network of rabbis and partners, she found relief. “This has been a real life saver,” she wrote. “I can’t thank you enough… It’s a huge mitzvah.” Support like this doesn’t happen by accident. In moments like this, community makes all the difference.
