The term blacklist conjures the mid-20th century and Hollywood, but there have been blacklists throughout history, dating back to the 1700s when blacklists were used to prevent “suspicious” people from getting jobs. Since then, there’ve been many varieties of public and private blacklists, ways of forcing people out or keeping them from jobs, opportunities, access and/or security clearances. Join scholars and journalists to explore the uses of blacklists through time and their echoes in contemporary American life.

In partnership with Moment Magazine.
