Introducing our NEXUS Class of 2025!

Federation’s Next Gen is pleased to introduce this year’s dynamic and diverse class of professionals who will come together for a multi-session program to enrich their leadership abilities, build community, and explore their Jewish values and philanthropy. Each session will feature distinguished community leaders and explore what it means to be inclusive leaders, the power of collective giving, and how to have hard conversations with their peers. Join us in congratulating the next generation of future leaders and changemakers!

+ Becca Appel

Though originally from Florida, Becca has been in the DC region for almost a decade. She has been working in the environmental field for her entire career and currently works at a boutique consulting firm that specializes in climate change. In her free time, Becca likes to spend time with family and friends, see live music, and go on hikes and is generally happiest when she is outdoors. The Jewish community was central to her upbringing and is excited to deepen her commitment to the Jewish community through NEXUS.

James Bendetson Squarey

+ James Bendetson

James is originally from the Boston area and moved to DC in 2020 for business school. He works in real estate private equity with both residential and commercial properties. When he is not working, you can usually find him rooting for any of the Boston sports teams, looking for an investment property, or going on a hike. He is looking forward to the NEXUS program to be a better leader in the Jewish community where he hopes to make a lasting impact, and looks forward to getting to know NEXUS participants over the next several weeks.

Trevor Bryant Square

+ Trevor Bryant

Trevor is a well-traveled gentleman who enjoys building community and getting to know people. He grew up on a blueberry farm near Louisville, KY and enjoyed living in Houston and Portland before relocating to DC in 2024. He has enjoyed spending time in smaller Jewish communities before making DC home. Trevor is passionate about Jewish communal leadership and drawing on his experiences across diverse communities and leadership experiences to build strategies in the nation’s capital. A former engineer now working in finance and data analytics, Trevor uses data to determine the story beneath the numbers. He knows numbers can only tell part of the story and enjoys learning about people, their lives, and their motivations.

After graduating from Colgate University in 2017, Danny began his career in real estate in Manhattan, where he spent four years and met my wife, Sasha. In 2022, they relocated to the DC area, where he now serves as Vice President at RST Development, a real estate development firm specializing in market-rate and affordable housing. With seven years of industry experience, Danny has developed a passion for creating thoughtful and impactful developments that benefit residents and communities alike. In his free time, he enjoys working out, playing golf, meditating, and playing guitar. Before moving from DC to Bethesda, MD, he enjoyed volunteering with Achilles International, where he guided visually impaired runners. More recently, he has focused on connecting with and expanding his involvement within the Jewish community. He eagerly welcomes new connections, more learning, and the opportunity to contribute to causes that matter to him.

Leila currently serves as the Assistant Director of Religious Education at Washington Hebrew Congregation (WHC). She is originally from Philadelphia and prior to WHC, she attended the graduate school at the Hornstein Program at Brandeis University. She enjoys running and the Bravo network. She is looking forward to meeting fellow NEXUS cohort members and learning about Jewish leadership in the greater DC community.

+ Adam Gray

Adam is from Potomac, MD, and is a former Collegiate Big 10 golfer from Rutgers University and founder of Gray Financial. His mission is to help people find confidence and clarity in their financial plan so they can live their best lives. Adam’s personal and professional passions has afforded him the opportunity to directly impact Jewish lives in the community.

+ Dylan Hamerman

Dylan is a recent graduate from the University of Washington in Seattle, hailing originally from Los Angeles, now living in Washington DC. He graduated with a BA in Political Science and Law, Societies, and Justice. He currently works as the Presidential Fellow in the Office of the President & CEO at Hillel International, staffing and briefing the CEO in key meetings, events, travel, and campus visits. Dylan previously was a member of the Hillel International Student Cabinet, as well as the President of the Student Board at Hillel UW, and President of his fraternity, Alpha Sigma Phi. Dylan is interested in law and politics and was an intern for both the US House and Senate during college. Following the completion of his role at Hillel International, Dylan will be attending Law school in the Fall of 2026. In his free time, he enjoys running, cooking, and watching college football.

Brian is a seasoned community organizer and advocate, specializing in applying psychological principles to conflict resolution and community engagement. With a proven ability to unite diverse groups, Brian has facilitated impactful collaborations among Jewish, LGBTQ+, Catholic, Black, and Latino organizations to foster stronger relationships and enhance collective impact. His expertise has supported educational institutions and the US Department of Justice in promoting understanding and inclusivity. Currently serving as the Assistant Director of AJC ACCESS Global, Brian is committed to empowering young leaders to advance global Jewish advocacy through innovative programming and cross-cultural dialogue.

+ Ethan Kalishman

Ethan is a management consultant on the federal transportation team at Guidehouse, a global consultancy based in DC. Originally from St. Louis, MO, Ethan graduated with a BA in Public Policy, Sociology, and Hispanic Studies in 2024 from Hamilton College. In his free time, he enjoys travel (having lived in Europe for a year), attending EDM festivals, playing tennis, and discussing urban development with anyone who will listen. He also is an avid alpine skier. Ethan is excited about joining NEXUS to broaden his Jewish community and identity in DC!

Originally from Wilmington, NC, Karli joined AIPAC’s professional staff in 2018 and today is AIPAC Director of Leadership Development. In her role, Karli manages all AIPAC’s student engagement, from middle school through college. Karli graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and received her Master’s in Israel Education from the George Washington University. Karli lives in Northern Virginia with her husband Michael.

Melissa is originally from Dallas, TX, where being part of the local Jewish community played a big role in her life growing up. After graduating from the University of Maryland in 2019, she moved back to Dallas for a few years before returning to the DC area in 2022. She currently works as a corporate event planner and in her free time enjoys crafting, working on Sudoku puzzles, and playing Mahjong. She is excited to get to know fellow cohort members and looks forward to developing Jewish leadership skills through the NEXUS program.

Charles is a Senior Financial Analyst at Greysteel in Bethesda, MD working with the Affordable Housing Team. He is a Bethesda native who has lived in DC since graduating from Emory University’s Goizueta Business School in 2020. In his free time, he enjoys playing golf, cheering on DC sports teams, cooking, and traveling.

Samantha moved to DC in June 2021 after graduating from Lehigh University. She is originally from Queens, NY and grew up in both Queens and the Upper West Side of Manhattan. She attended Jewish day school until 8th grade and attended Camp Ramah in the Berkshires as a camper and counselor. Samantha is currently a senior research associate at a private intelligence and investigation firm where she employs her Hebrew and Arabic language skills. She played co-ed soccer weekly and is a season ticket holder of the Washington Spirit. Her free time is filled with sports (Ohio State, Mets, Steelers, and Islanders), reality TV, books, restaurants, and friends.

+ Anthony Musa

Anthony is a Foreign Service Officer at the US Department of State. He most recently served in the Bureau of South and Central Asia on the Kazakhstan desk and covered regional economic issues for Central Asia. Prior to joining State Department in 2021, he worked at the Office of Foreign Assets Control from 2017-2021 covering economic sanctions on Russia, Iran, and counterterrorism. In his personal capacity, Anthony serves as a Vice President at Capital Pride Alliance, which manages Pride events in the DC area. He also served on the board of GLIFAA, Pride in Foreign Affairs Agencies. Originally from Phoenix, AZ, he is a member of Adas Israel and has an MA from the Middlebury Institute of International Studies in Nonproliferation and Terrorism Studies and a BA in Political Science from Arizona State University. He is also pursuing an MA in Jewish Studies part-time from Yeshiva University.

Carly, a Buffalo, NY native, works as a Consultant for Ernst & Young in Washington, DC. She recently moved to DC from Charlotte with her fiancée and is excited for this next chapter. She graduated in 2021 from Elon University with degrees in International Business and Spanish. Carly deepened her connection to her Jewish identity through a transformative Birthright trip to Israel in 2022 and is looking forward to participating in the NEXUS program with The Jewish Federation.

+ Samantha Robinson

Sam (she/her) is a former Floridian who spent a few years living in North Carolina after completing her degrees at the University of Florida (Go Gators!). She works in the consumer protections space in financial services, which someone once told her sounds like she is in the business of keeping banks and FinTechs kosher. Outside of work, Sam loves exploring the DMV, tending to her house plants and hydroponic garden setup, baking her way through some Jewish classics with a twist, curating a playlist, or adding to her to-be-read list.

Eli grew up in Madison, WI, before heading west to attend the University of Denver. After spending 11 years in Colorado, he and his now wife, Jessica, made the move to Washington, DC in 2021. By day, Eli works on Capitol Hill, and in his free time, he’s always seeking out live music, exploring the outdoors to fly fish or hike, spending time with his Big Brothers, Big Sisters mentee, Keishawn, or enjoying quality time with his siblings and his adorable nieces and nephews. Eli and Jessica share their DC home with their two dogs, Mac and Hopper.

Mike is the Senior Policy Advisor for AI & Cyber at Third Way’s National Security Program and is regularly seen on or quoted in The Hill, i24 (Israel), Al Hurra (US), Al Arabiya (Saudi Arabia), Al Ghad (Egypt), and Al Araby (Qatar). He was named to the inaugural 40 Under 40 cohort by the Middle East Policy Council at the age of 29 and is a member of Foreign Policy for America and the OODA Network. He is the lead editor of Cyber War & Cyber Peace (I.B. Tauris, 2022), an anthology of expert essays on cyber conflict in the Middle East. He is proficient in Arabic, Hebrew, and Spanish.

+ Ellie Shahrabani

Ellie is from Livingston, NJ. She went to the University of Florida where she studied finance and information systems. She currently works at Capital One in Mclean, VA and lives in DC. Ellie enjoys watching reality TV, spending time with friends, going on long walks, and exploring new places. She is always looking for the next best restaurant or fun spot. She loves puppies and can always be counted on to snap a quick video of every single Dachshund she sees.

+ Gabi Silver

Gabi is from West Hartford, CT and moved to DC at the end of last summer. By day he is an event planner and at night a community connector. He is a 2022 graduate of Johnson & Wales University, and prior to moving to DC he spent a year in Israel on a Masa program, including studies at Pardes in Jerusalem. He is a member of DC Minyan, sits on the Herut DC Board, and teaches Hebrew school on the side. When not building bridges he plays kickball, enjoys reading, hiking, and finding the best coffee shops on his endless walks around DC. He is excited to Join the 2025 NEXUS cohort, build connections and increase his leadership presence across Jewish DMV.

+ Zachary Weinberg

Zachary was born and raised in Potomac, MD. He obtained a bachelor’s degree from Indiana University Bloomington with a focus on US and European history. Thereafter, he attended DePaul College of Law and obtained his juris doctorate degree. Zachary remained in Chicago for three years working at a personal injury law firm and recently moved back home to the DC area to start a new job with a local personal injury law firm. He has always been motivated to help those who are in need and give a voice to the voiceless. Outside of work, Zachary is an avid sports fan, specifically football, soccer, and golf. His family and friends mean everything to him and would be nowhere in life without their continuous love and support. It has and will always be his mission to reciprocate that love and support.

Samantha is a Project Manager for the National Development Department at AIPAC in Washington, DC. She joined AIPAC in 2018 as an AIPAC Fellow in Florida before relocating to DC in 2022. A proud graduate of The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, Samantha double majored in Public Policy and Political Science. Originally from Rockland County, NY, Samantha developed a strong Jewish identity through her experiences at Reuben Gittelman Hebrew Day School, Camp Ramah in Nyack, and her active involvement in USY. Samantha is excited to be part of the NEXUS cohort of 2025 and is looking forward to deepening her engagement with The Jewish Federation of Greater Washington.

Dana is a Senior Communications Manager in the United States Senate and helped lead her boss, as Communications Director, through a successful 2024 election cycle. Prior to joining Congress, she worked in New York City at an advertising agency representing Fortune 100 clients. Dana earned her Master’s Degree in Strategic Political Communications from the School of Media and Public Affairs at George Washington University and her undergraduate degree in International Studies and Media Studies from Emory University. Dana grew up in Potomac, MD and is a lifelong member of Washington Hebrew Congregation. In her free time, she enjoys playing golf and tennis.
