Sephardic Heritage International (SHIN-DC) cordially extends an invitation for you to join the Congressional Iraqi Farhud Committee, the Iraqi American Jewish Community, the Israeli American Community, the diplomatic community and Members of Congress to celebrate over 2,600 years of Iraqi Jewish life and take a stand against antisemitism and terror.
Kosher wine reception with Iraqi Jewish hors d’oeuvres, including sambusak (savory pastries) and haji bada (gluten-free almond cookies originating from the Iraqi Jewish community)
- The Farhud is an outbreak of antisemitic mob violence against Baghdad Jewry that erupted on June 1, 1941, during the Shavuot Jewish holiday.
- This program commemorates the victims of the Farhud Iraqi pogrom of 1941 and of October 7.
- In memory of Shlomo Mantzur who escaped the 1941 Iraqi Farhud massacre and emigrated to Israel, only to face another pogrom 82 years later in the Jewish state on October 7.
