DESCRIPTION:Joshua Maxey is the guest speaker for Temple Emanuel’s 2025 Dr. Martin Luther King Jr Commemorative Shabbat. Prozdor reception at 6:00pm followed by service at 6:30pm.  \nJoshua Maxey (he/him) is the Executive Director of Bet Mishpachah\, DC’S LGBTQ+ synagogue. Josh has a passion for Tikkun Olam and working to create spaces of belonging within the Jewish community.  \nJosh is also a member of Washington Hebrew Congregation where he serves on the SEA Change Racial Equity Committee\, board of directors and organizer of the Jews of affinity space.  \nJosh is also a member of the Board Community Leadership Council for the Jewish Federation of Greater Washington; Franciscan Mission Service; the Forward Association; and the Edlavitch DC Jewish Community Center. \nTemple Emanuel has hosted Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Commemorative Shabbats since 1987.

After a US adoption goes horribly wrong\, Potts finds herself surprised\, disgusted and ultimately resigned to the role she plays as a middle class white lady in the business of adopting babies in the US and internationally. Potts’ tragicomic journey is about looking for more love\, more life and more family and will do anything to get it\, including having her morals and values fold in on themselves.
