Moving Forward Together

As we approach the end of 2021, I am feeling particularly energized by everything that our community accomplished this year. Looking ahead to what’s next and how our decisions today will affect our collective future, I am reminded of a quote from Rabbi Lord Jonathan Sacks, z”l.

“We achieve greatness by handing our values onto the next generation and empowering them to go and build the future.”

This year, from caring for those in need, to educating and engaging our teens and youth, to enriching our communal connections and much more, we can take pride in how we’ve modeled our Jewish values for generations to come. Together, we have made tremendous strides forward in myriad ways.

I am particularly grateful to work with so many people who approach our challenges and opportunities in ways that strengthen our work and further our impact, and who serve as allies and champions of our community. I extend my deepest gratitude to our generous donors and leadership—our Executive and other lay committees, our Board of Directors, and our community’s Jewish communal professionals, for helping us do such meaningful work.

Of course, we still have a long road ahead. There is no completion when it comes to addressing our communal needs and opportunities, nor to the ways in which we can become stronger and more vibrant. That’s why we need your ongoing support. To those who have already made your annual gift, I thank you on behalf of a grateful Jewish community. For those still finalizing your end-of-year giving plans, I invite you to donate what you are able before midnight on December 31st at shalomdc.org/donate, or by calling 301-230-7239.

Thank you for joining us to strengthen our community, today and for the future.

With gratitude,
Gil
