What is the Jewish Community COVID-19 Impact Survey for Greater Washington?
The study is being conducted by the Cohen Center for Modern Jewish Studies at Brandeis University, on behalf of the Jewish Federation of Greater Washington in partnership with local Jewish organizations and synagogues across the Greater Washington community. As we continue to navigate the coronavirus pandemic, we seek to more fully understand its impact on individuals and households in our region. The findings of this survey will be available to local organizations to help meet the community’s needs.
Who is conducting the research?
The study is being conducted by the Cohen Center for Modern Jewish Studies at Brandeis University, on behalf of the Jewish Federation of Greater Washington in partnership with local Jewish organizations and synagogues across the Greater Washington community.
Why is it being conducted?
Jewish households from communities across the United States are being surveyed to understand and document the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the Jewish community. The study results will help Jewish organizations determine the impact of the coronavirus crisis in their local communities and enable data-driven support to individuals and households who are most affected by the situation.
In DC, MD, and Northern VA, The Jewish Federation of Greater Washington is making this research possible to ensure that our community has the best possible understanding of the situation.
Who is eligible to take the survey?
You are eligible to take the survey if you consider yourself Jewish in any way. You must be at least 18 years old to participate and live in the Greater Washington region: District of Columbia; Suburban Maryland (Montgomery and Prince George’s counties); and Northern Virginia (Fairfax, Prince William, and Loudoun counties, Arlington county/city and the cities of Alexandria, Fairfax, Falls Church, and Manassas Park).

The study is being conducted by the Cohen Center for Modern Jewish Studies at Brandeis University, and is funded by The Jewish Federation of Greater Washington and the Initiative for Jewish Identity at Brandeis.
Where did you get my information/why are you “contacting” me?
This survey is open and accessible to all members of the Jewish community of the Greater Washington area. In order to best reach every individual and household in the region, The Jewish Federation has partnered with a number of local organizations to spread the word about this opportunity. You may have received the link multiple times, depending on your affiliations with specific institutions. Note that no individual contact information has been shared between organizations.
How can I be sure that my answers will be confidential?
Any information provided will remain strictly confidential and only aggregate findings will be reported. No identifying data will be shared with any local Jewish institutions, including The Jewish Federation of Greater Washington. All research is conducted under the guidance of the Brandeis University Institutional Review Board (IRB), which has approved these procedures to protect the rights of research participants.

I’m not Jewish – can I still take the survey?
Our current study is designed only for those who identify as Jewish. At this time, we are unable to collect your survey responses. We apologize for any inconvenience.
I live outside the DC area. Can I still take the survey?
Our current study is designed only for those who are living in the Greater Washington area, which is limited to the District of Columbia; Suburban Maryland (Montgomery and Prince George’s counties); and Northern Virginia (Fairfax, Prince William, and Loudoun counties, Arlington county/city and the cities of Alexandria, Fairfax, Falls Church, and Manassas Park). At this time, we are unable to collect your survey responses. We apologize for any inconvenience.
I think I already took this survey – can/should I take it again?
Some individuals may receive invitations to take the same survey – through email or social media – from more than one organization in our community. If you do, we request that you only take the survey once. If you have already taken the survey, thank you for sharing your experience!
