DC-ISRAELI-ARAB SCHOOL PARTNERSHIP
This fall, Charles E. Smith Jewish Day School team up with a Jewish Israeli school and an Arab Israeli school for an educational Imagine Israel partnership, facilitated by NGO The Abraham Fund Initiatives (TAFI). During the 2016-2017 school year, teachers at the three schools will develop collaborative curriculum to be used in an elective class for teens during the 2017-2018 school year. The schools will explore issues of social identity, assessing multiple narratives through stories and perspectives across cultural awareness.
As part of this dynamic Israel engagement program, Federation brings renowned Israeli agents of change to our community to lead discussions on the innovative ideas and influential actions that have advanced social change in their field of expertise (i.e. disabilities inclusion, LGBTQ, Jewish-Arab co-existence, hunger). Meet our next Changemaker to learn how their life, work and passions intersect to make a substantial impact on Israeli society.
SUMMER CAMP PROGRAM: JEWISH & ARAB SHARED SOCIETY
Jewish, Muslim and Christian children at Capital Camps in PA and Jaffa Community Centers in Israel will participate in an audio overseas story exchange throughout the summer. At the end of the summer, Israel Story (the Israeli version of “This American Life”) will weave together the audio clips to create a podcast following the children’s conversations across the ocean.
SUMMER CAMP PROGRAM: DISABILITY INCLUSION
Over the course of the summer, disability inclusion programs at Camp JCC at Bender JCC of Greater Washington, Capital Camps in PA and Camp Shutaf in Jerusalem decorated quilt squares and recorded video clips depicting their lives at camp. At the end of the summer, the project will culminate in an interwoven quilt weaving together many backgrounds into one unified storyline.
