The Gift of the Passover Seder: A Message from our CEO
As we prepare to begin our Passover celebrations this evening, I am reminded of a quote by Rabbi Nachman of Breslov that feels especially pertinent today. “The Exodus from Egypt,” he said, “occurs in every human being, in every era, in every year and in every day.” Few celebrations offer as many lessons and challenges as a Passover seder.

Calling all Budding Artists: What Does Israel Mean to You?
In celebration of Israel’s 70th Independence Day, Federation is holding an art contest for students in grades Pre-K through 12! Kids can create artwork in a variety of media that portrays their excitement about Israel including Israeli culture, food, people, landmarks and innovation. The winning artwork will be displayed at Federation’s Israel@70 Celebration on Sunday, June 3 and will be featured on the cover of PJ Library® Greater Washington’s Israel Activity Booklets, which will be distributed at the event. Ten finalists will also be published in the Washington Jewish Week in April.
The deadline to submit is Thursday, April 12.

Jewish Funders Network Bestows Prestigious Award on Partnership Funding Efforts to Increase Equality in Israel
On March 13, The Jewish Funders Network awarded the 2018 Shapiro Prize for Excellence in Philanthropic Collaboration to the Social Venture Fund for Jewish-Arab Equality and Shared Society (SVF), a collaborative partnership of more than 20 funders including The Jewish Federation of Greater Washington, for its forward-thinking collaboration to address one of the most important and sensitive issues affecting the future of Israel.
