SUMMARY:The Tween Shift: Stepping Back Without Stepping Away
DESCRIPTION:The tween years mark one of life’s most significant developmental transitions. As children enter adolescence\, they gain greater autonomy\, peer influence becomes more powerful\, and access to social media expands\, fundamentally shifting the parent-child dynamic. During this time\, many parents discover that familiar approaches no longer work and feel increasing pressure to stay involved while supporting their child’s growing independence. Navigating this transition successfully requires a new approach to parenting.

SUMMARY:2239 Havdalah Yoga
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a beautifully blended class of yoga and Judaism! \nJoin 2239 as we set intentions for the new year during an inspiring and relaxing yoga practice. After class\, catch up with old friends or meet your new besties as we enjoy light refreshments and start the new week together with joy. \nClass is open to everyone of all levels and will be taught by WHC’s amazing Stephanie Tankel. \nStephanie became a certified yoga and meditation instructor in 2016. She loves meshing the ancient traditions of Judaism and yoga\, believing they have far more in common than most see on the surface. Her “day job” is Director of Lifelong Learning at WHC. When not practicing yoga or work\, Stephanie loves walking anywhere\, binging shows\, or accidentally spending too much time sucked into the vortex of social media (strong preference for nature/animal videos)! She lives with her husband\, a rescued mutt\, and their three kids in NW DC. \nExpect a beautifully blended class of yoga + Judaism. Can’t wait to see you there!

SUMMARY:From Alliance to Friendship: Blacks\, Jews and Pluralistic Peoplehood
DESCRIPTION:The Fifth Annual Distinguished Lecture in Judaic Studies at George Mason University. Dr. David Weinfeld of Rowan University will be giving a talk that traces the history of two figures\, Jewish immigrant Horace Kallen and Black philosopher Alain Locke\, whose conversations helped shape the idea of cultural pluralism—the precursor to modern multiculturalism. Drawing on their story\, Dr. Weinfeld offers a new framework for imagining Black-Jewish relations\, one focused on friendship rather than alliance. \nThe lecture will be followed by a conversation between the guest lecturer and Dr. LaNitra Berger\, Associate Professor of History and Art History and Director of African and African American Studies at George Mason University and Board President of the Pozez JCC. \nCo-sponsored by GMU Judaic Studies\, Mason Hillel\, the Pozez JCC\, the JCRC of Greater Washington\, and GMU African and African American Studies
