SUMMARY:Couples' Shabbat: Cohabitating Jewishly
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a special evening where couples can come together\, welcome Shabbat with ritual and song\, share a delicious meal\, and explore what it means to build a Jewish home together. \nOur learning for the evening will focus on cohabitating Jewishly—how we navigate rituals\, traditions\, and values as partners; how we learn from each other’s backgrounds and practices; and how we create homes that reflect who we are\, both individually and together. Whether you’re newlyweds or seasoned partners\, there’s so much wisdom to share and learn from one another. \nCome ready to connect (or reconnect!)\, swap stories (and maybe some good advice!)\, and strengthen the community we’ve built together. We invite you to bring a vegetarian potluck dinner item to share\, please let me know of any allergies ahead of time so we can communicate to the entire group. \nNo experience necessary. Everyone is welcome. This gathering will take place in Silver Spring\, MD. Specific meet-up location and additional details will be shared with registrants after the registration deadline. Register by May 13th.

SUMMARY:Pre-Shavuot Lunch & Learn
DESCRIPTION:As we prepare to mentally ascend Mt Sinai\, join Rabbi Shais Rishon of Ohel Eidot Chemdata and a special guest Eidot CHeMDaT”A Rabbi for an afternoon of learning\, renewal\, and giving. \nThis soulful pre-Shavuot class invites us to explore the powerful bond between Zeman Matan Torahteinu—the Time of the Giving of Our Torah—and how African Americans defined themselves through a historical moment. \nThrough food\, music\, reflection\, storytelling\, and shared wisdom\, we will honor the intertwined journeys of liberation that shape the African American & Jewish identity and explore how by way of a covenant and blind faith a nation is born. \nGrab your Tanakh and join us as we dialogue about the ten commandments\, why the Book of Ruth is read\, and why we stay up all night learning Torah. SUMMARY:Princess\, Priestess & Poet Enheduana: History’s First Named Author
DESCRIPTION:Princess\, Priestess & Poet Enheduana: History’s First Named Author\nAlhena Gadotti – Towson University \nEnheduana was the daughter of Sargon The Great of Akkad (23rd century BCE)\, and is one of the most intriguing\, yet elusive\, women from antiquity. She has been celebrated as the earliest known named author in world history. \nRoyal princess\, priestess\, and putative poet\, Enheduana deserves as much attention as her martial relatives. A crucial contributor to her father’s military ambitions\, Enheduana nonetheless wielded religious and economic power\, as evidenced by primary and secondary sources. \nEven more interestingly\, Enheduana remained alive in the cultural memory of those who came after her\, so much so that writings attributed to her were integrated into the scribal curriculum centuries after her death. \nThis presentation will situate Enheduana in the tumultuous times in which she lived to gain a better understanding of her roles as princess\, priestess of the Sumerian moon cult\, and illustrious poet.

SUMMARY:Turning Towards: A Shavuot Learning Celebration
DESCRIPTION:As we celebrate Shavuot—the festival commemorating the giving of Torah at Mount Sinai—join us for a special Shavuot learning exploring what it means to turn towards Judaism in your own way. At Sinai\, our ancestors made a collective choice to receive Torah and enter into covenant. Tonight\, we’ll reflect on moments of curiosity and connection: the questions that draw us closer\, the practices we’re curious about\, and the ways we find meaning in Jewish life. \nWe’ll dive into learning and conversation that honors all paths—whether you’re exploring for the first time\, returning after time away\, or deepening a lifelong connection. \nIn the spirit of Shavuot\, we’ll share mac n’ cheese\, good conversation\, and the warmth of community. Feel free to bring your favorite dessert\, though it’s not required. Please share any allergy or dietary restrictions when you sign up so we can create a feast that everyone can enjoy. \nNo experience necessary. Everyone is welcome. This gathering will take place in Silver Spring\, MD. Specific meet-up location and additional details will be shared with registrants after the registration deadline. Register by May 15th. \nthe Den Collective serves 20s\, 30s\, and 40s throughout the Greater Washington Area.
