We have received $1\,000 microgrant from The Jewish Federation of Greater Washington to purchase food for Afghani refugees. COC partners with and interfaith refugee group New Neighbor Interfaith Alliance (NNIA). Afghani refugees often come with little resources. This microgrant will provide funding to buy halal meat\, milk\, fruit\, and rice for the neediest families in our community. \n2. COC will be providing a dinner for Stepping Stones Shelter. Stepping Stones is a family shelter that provides emergency shelter for up to six families at one time. \n2. We are also currently holding a canned food drive that will end on April 12th. A RainScape is a landscape design technique that helps reduce stormwater runoff. Since we are located next to Rock Creek we want to prevent stormwater and pollution from flowing into storm drains and the nearby stream. In the fall\, we will be bringing our vision to life by planting various native plant species that will help trap the water runoff from the roof and let it soak into the ground instead of flowing into the parking lot and down the hill into the creek. But in order to be successful in the fall\, we need to prepare the ground now in the spring! We will be spreading a thin layer of compost and then a thicker layer of woodchips on top.
