SUMMARY:Stories of Liberation and Freedom: Then and Now
DESCRIPTION:The Passover story begins in Egypt and moves through plagues\, courage\, and ultimately\, the journey to freedom. Jewish tradition has been telling and retelling this story for thousands of years\, and each generation adds new layers. \nIn this learning session\, we’ll explore a range of texts – ancient and modern – that grapple with slavery\, plagues\, and the ongoing fight for liberation. Together we’ll ask: How have Jews across time understood oppression and freedom? What feels resonant or challenging for us today? \nNo experience necessary. Everyone is welcome. Specific location and additional details will be shared with registrants after the registration deadline.

SUMMARY:International Women Day Event
DESCRIPTION:Think you know tahini? Love halva? \nJoin us for a special evening with Chef Rachel Simons\, founder of Seed + Mill and author of “Sesame”! Chef Rachel will teach us how to elevate our dessert tables with bold\, modern sesame creations and\, of course\, we’ll get to taste the amazing sweets that bring people together. \nBut that’s not all; the evening also includes more energetic\, fun surprises! \nBeyond the tasting\, we’ll explore how one ancient seed connects cultures\, kitchens\, and communities. For everyone connected to the Middle East\, sesame carries memory: the taste of the shuk in Jerusalem\, a grandmother’s recipe\, a beloved dish. But food doesn’t belong to just one story. It travels. It adapts. It welcomes. Around the table\, differences soften\, conversations open\, and connections grow. \nWe’re especially excited to gather women from diverse backgrounds\, and friends and supporters of the Israel\, for an evening that celebrates culture\, resilience\, and shared values\, through something as simple and powerful as food. \nDJ Grace will be on the decks\, keeping us dancing until we drop in a dance party to remember. \nCome curious.\nCome hungry.\nCome ready to connect. \nThis program is presented by Israeli American Council (IAC) in partnership with The Jewish Federation of Greater Washington.

SUMMARY:Passover HerTorah: The Burdens We Carry on the Journey to Redemption
DESCRIPTION:Every year\, we’re asked to imagine ourselves as if we personally left Egypt. But that doesn’t land the same way each year.\nThis Pesach\, many of us are arriving at the Seder carrying… a lot. Personally\, communally\, globally. The Seder has always been an opportunity to talk around the table\, hear each other’s stories\, and appreciate each other’s journeys. So what are you carrying into the Seder this year? \nJoin SVIVAH for a virtual gathering of Jewish women* to reflect on that question together. Through learning\, conversation\, and personal reflection\, we’ll explore what “leaving Egypt” feels like in our own lives right now — wherever we are in the journey.\nFeaturing R’ Aliza Sperling\, Anne Gordon\, R’ Dalia Davis\, and other educators and clergy sharing how the words of the Passover Haggadah are landing for them this year. We’ll hear voices from women in Israel right now\, others from Michigan and Minneapolis\, and more. Lots of new stories – and new journeys. \nAll backgrounds and learners welcome. \n*SVIVAH welcomes all those wishing to be included in a circle of Jewish women. If you want to be with us\, we want you with us.

SUMMARY:Day at the J: Can We All Agree?
DESCRIPTION:Parenting is full of decisions — and somehow\, no two parents ever seem to make the same ones. This Day at the J program invites our community to come together\, disagree productively\, and maybe even find some common ground. \nWhile kids ages 7 and under enjoy an afternoon of fun and meaningful activities\, parents can choose their own adventure. Catch Theater J’s production of Eureka Day\, a sharp and wildly timely comedy about a progressive school board forced to confront a mumps outbreak and the question of what happens when facts become subjective and every solution divisive. Or skip the theater and join a candid group discussion about the pressure to follow the parenting herd when it comes to trends\, choices\, and unsolicited advice. Not feeling the conversation? Pull up a chair in the library\, pour yourself a glass of wine or seltzer\, grab a nosh\, and just enjoy the company of other parents who get it. \nThe afternoon ends the way the best things do — with the whole family back together\, sharing pizza and ushering out the week with Havdalah. However you spent your afternoon\, you’ll leave with a full stomach\, good company\, and proof that community doesn’t require consensus.

SUMMARY:18th Annual National Rainbow Seder
DESCRIPTION:Now in its eighteenth year\, the National Rainbow Seder is one of the nation’s largest and longest-running Passover seders for the queer Jewish community and its allies. \nThis year’s theme\, Liberation for All Who Journey: Remembering\, Resisting\, Rebuilding\, invites us to retell the Passover story through a queer lens\, honoring our ancestors’ path to freedom alongside the hard-fought progress of the LGBTQ+ equality movement. Our specially commissioned Haggadah (the Jewish text containing the Passover Story) weaves ritual\, resistance\, and joy into an evening where we can show up fully and celebrate liberation together. \nSeder will be led by Rabbi Atara Cohen and Rabbi Avigayil Halpern\, and will feature keynote speaker Reverend Diego Miguel Sanchez\, Vice President\, Policy and Government Affairs\, PFLAG National. \nThe Edlavitch DCJCC is grateful to our 2026 Rainbow Seder partners: HRC\, Bet Mishpachah\, Adas Israel\, Embassy of Israel\, NJB+ DC\, Nice Jewish Girls\, GatherDC\, Washington Hebrew Congregation\, and Honeymoon Israel.
