DESCRIPTION:Join us for Havdalah at 7:00 pm\, followed by light refreshments. At 7:30 pm\, we will welcome Ambassador Stuart Eizenstat for our annual Schlezinger Law Lecture. Ambassador Eizenstat will discuss his new book\, The Art of Diplomacy: How American Negotiators Reached Historic Agreements that Changed the World\, and America’s most significant and consequential negotiations over the past fifty years. \nAmbassador Eizenstat is a former top White House aide\, U.S. ambassador\, undersecretary of state\, and deputy secretary of the treasury who has served in six presidential administrations\, played a leading role himself in several of these negotiations\, and personally interviewed more than 125 U.S. and international leaders. He has a 360-degree view of international negotiations at the highest level. Eizenstat brings to life the personalities\, issues\, obstacles\, and dramatic breakthroughs that have created the world we live in today. He shows how the United States has been the indispensable leader: sometimes as a direct negotiator seeking a desired outcome; sometimes as a mediator between contesting parties; sometimes wielding military force to achieve a political goal; and sometimes as an advocate for global cooperation on issues like international trade and climate change. \nRegistration encouraged\, but not required.

Most songs are sung in Ladino\, with some in Bosnian\, honoring the group’s mentor\, Flory Jagoda\, the beloved Bosnian-born singer and National Heritage Fellow. \nThe weekend opens with Kabbalat Shabbat Evening Services featuring Trio Sefardi followed by Sefardic Cuisine Oneg\, Friday\, November 7th at 6:30 PM. \nThis special weekend is made possible by a fund honoring Gail Letzter\, whose love for Jewish arts continues to inspire and enrich our community.

Together we will explore relevant Jewish texts\, traditions\, and ideas to cultivate meaningful ways to infuse Judaism into your lives\, relationship\, and home. Our learning circle will also be an opportunity to build deeper connections among members\, as well as craft meaningful Jewish experiences together. No prior experience necessary. \nSample of Class Topics: \n\nMeaningful + Inspirational Shabbat/Holiday Practice\nInfusing Your Home with Jewish Values + Ethics\nJewish Wisdom on Cultivating Intimacy in Relationships + “Me Time”\nIntegrating diverse traditions (interfaith/multifaith/Jewish)\nNavigating Additional Resources + Offerings Throughout the Greater Jewish Community\n\nThe Couples’ Learning Circle is intended to build meaningful relationships among group members. Space is limited to foster an intimate and connected cohort dynamic. Sign up is on a first come\, first served basis. SUMMARY:An Evening with Brivele & A Glezele Tey - Klezmer music and Yiddish Folk Songs
DESCRIPTION:Brivele (Yiddish for “little letter” )\, a Seattle-based ensemble who braid together Yiddish song\, anti-fascist and labor balladry\, folk-punk\, and contemporary rabble-rousing in stirring vocal harmony. Like letters\, songs travel — through time and over borders. They pick up dirt\, aromas\, fingerprints. They are sent to lovers\, they foment revolution\, they get stolen and censored\, burned and salvaged\, sewn into our clothes. We journey into the archives of Yiddish anti-fascist musical tradition\, bringing together anti-authoritarian satire\, mournful remembrances\, and the disguised political commentary in folk ditties and theater classics. These songs are a correspondence: our ancestors’ voices speak clearly and uncompromisingly\, sometimes sweetly\, to our present moment. \nA Glezele Tey (Yiddish for “a little glass of tea”)\, a group comprised of acclaimed klezmer musicians and composers Ariel Shapiro\, Rachel Leader\, and Richie Barshay. Come for an intimate concert of klezmer\, Yiddish folk songs\, and tkhines—traditional Ashkenazi prayers centering women\, trans\, and gender non-conforming voices\, set to new melodies. Drawing from archival recordings and contemporary life in the Eastern European Jewish diaspora\, A Glezele Tey’s music is grounded in community\, ritual\, and care—lifting collective voices to move through grief\, inspire action\, and imagine a frayer velt (a freer world).
