SUMMARY:Empowering Mental Health Providers to Confront Antisemitism
DESCRIPTION:This program is for mental health providers only.\nIn the last few years\, Jewish mental health professionals have experienced an alarming increase in antisemitic language and actions from clients and colleagues\, at professional conferences and within professional associations. \nSocial workers\, psychiatrists\, psychologists and others in the mental health field are grappling with how to best respond to these situations — or whether to respond at all — while maintaining professionalism and preserving their Jewish identity. \nJoin us Sunday\, June 7th in Bethesda\, MD for a morning of compelling conversation with professionals who are at the forefront of this issue. We will be joined by clinical psychologist Miri Bar-Halpern\, PsyD\, Director of Trauma Training and Services with Parents for Peace. Dr. Bar-Halpern has spoken frequently and written extensively on the egregious claims that Zionism should be treated as a mental illness and has educated mental health providers about the harm of traumatic invalidation. \nWe will also hear from local and national leaders working to address this crisis: \nJeff Mendelsohn\, Associate Vice President\, Advocacy & Civic Engagement\, The Jewish Federations of North America \nAndrea Yudell\, LICSW\, LCSW-C\, co-founder\, The Jewish Social Work Consortium \nMatt Biel\, M.D.\, M.Sc.\, Professor of Psychiatry and Pediatrics\, Director of the Thrive Center for Children\, Families and Communities at Georgetown University Medical Center \nAttendees will also have an opportunity to meet with fellow social workers\, psychologists and psychiatrists in the DMV to learn from each other\, share experiences and determine how to best coordinate advocacy within professional organizations to counter antisemitism. \nA light breakfast will be provided. There is no cost to attend.

SUMMARY:Healing Together: Overcoming Trauma Through Advocacy and Dialogue
DESCRIPTION:Nearly three years since the October 7th attacks\, the Jewish community continues to grapple with profound loss\, trauma\, and how to move forward in an ever-changing landscape at home and abroad. \nThe ongoing war in Iran\, the widening political divide\, and the rising level of antisemitism have added to our collective anxiety. How can we channel these emotions and overcome adversity through fellowship\, advocacy and dialogue? \nJoin us for a thoughtful conversation on how trauma impacts individuals and how it reverberates across families\, communities\, and the global Jewish population. \nRenowned trauma expert Dr. Miri Bar-Halpern and Jewish Women International Chief Executive Officer Meredith Jacobs in conversation with JCRC President Galia Messika Greenberg\, will discuss trauma and post-traumatic growth. Together\, they will weave together clinical insight with lived experience\, offering a deeper understanding of how trauma shapes individuals and communities — and how healing can begin. \nWe’ll also explore the critical role of advocacy in responding to and addressing that trauma — chiefly through the lens of JWI’s I Believe Israeli Women campaign\, which has worked to elevate awareness of gender-based violence\, support survivors\, and ensure that the experiences of Israeli women are seen\, heard\, and believed. \nGrounded in Jewish values of communal responsibility and care\, this program invites participants to consider: What does it mean to truly “show up” for one another after tragedy? How can we support survivors\, hold space for pain\, and foster resilience within our own circles? And how do we move\, collectively\, from grief toward meaning and renewal?
