SUMMARY:Fighting Food Insecurity
DESCRIPTION:Congregation Or Chadash (COC) has three activities for fighting food insecurity in Maryland. \n1. We have received $1\,000 microgrant from The Jewish Federation of Greater Washington to purchase food for Afghani refugees. COC partners with and interfaith refugee group New Neighbor Interfaith Alliance (NNIA). Afghani refugees often come with little resources. This microgrant will provide funding to buy halal meat\, milk\, fruit\, and rice for the neediest families in our community. \n2. COC will be providing a dinner for Stepping Stones Shelter. Stepping Stones is a family shelter that provides emergency shelter for up to six families at one time. \n2. We are also currently holding a canned food drive that will end on April 12th. The food we collect will go to Manna Food Center whose mission is to fight hunger in Montgomery County\, Maryland. \nFighting Food Insecurity is presented by Congregation Or Chadash in partnership with The Jewish Federation of Greater Washington and the generous support of The Sara and Samuel J. Lessans Good Deeds Day Fund.

Dr. Klein offers five spe­cif­ic resources that chil­dren devel­op in their rela­tion­ship with par­ents\, enabling them to face adver­si­ty\, adjust\, and thrive rather than fal­ter or break down under pres­sure. Her book shows par­ents what chil­dren need to man­age life’s hur­dles and cre­ate capac­i­ty for mean­ing­ful\, thriv­ing lives by con­fi­dent­ly build­ing strong rela­tion­ships with their chil­dren so they become moti­vat­ed\, self-assured\, and car­ing— qual­i­ties des­per­ate­ly need­ed today. \nThis program includes childcare and programming for children 18mo-4th grade at no charge. SUMMARY:18th Annual National Rainbow Seder
DESCRIPTION:Now in its eighteenth year\, the National Rainbow Seder is one of the nation’s largest and longest-running Passover seders for the queer Jewish community and its allies. \nThis year’s theme\, Liberation for All Who Journey: Remembering\, Resisting\, Rebuilding\, invites us to retell the Passover story through a queer lens\, honoring our ancestors’ path to freedom alongside the hard-fought progress of the LGBTQ+ equality movement. Our specially commissioned Haggadah (the Jewish text containing the Passover Story) weaves ritual\, resistance\, and joy into an evening where we can show up fully and celebrate liberation together. \nSeder will be led by Rabbi Atara Cohen and Rabbi Avigayil Halpern\, and will feature keynote speaker Reverend Diego Miguel Sanchez\, Vice President\, Policy and Government Affairs\, PFLAG National. \nThe Edlavitch DCJCC is grateful to our 2026 Rainbow Seder partners: HRC\, Bet Mishpachah\, Adas Israel\, Embassy of Israel\, NJB+ DC\, Nice Jewish Girls\, GatherDC\, Washington Hebrew Congregation\, and Honeymoon Israel.
