In Greater Washington, thousands of people face a daily struggle to meet basic needs. As a Jewish community, it is our sacred obligation to care for them. At Federation, we are honored to provide the opportunity for those of all ages and abilities to make an impact on our local community.
Continuing through Sunday, April 2nd, I invite you to join us for Federation’s annual Sara & Samuel J. Lessans Good Deeds Week.
What began years ago as a single Good Deeds Day of service has, in our region, grown into an incredible week-long initiative. Last year, more than 1,000 volunteers completed 40 projects, including the collection of 950+ cans of food and nearly 32,000 meals made and donated.
This year, we are once again proud to convene 60+ community partners and thousands of volunteers as we continue to host the largest Good Deeds Day effort in North America. It is a true honor to partner with so many incredible agencies, synagogues, and other institutions to help our community members care for each other. By the end of the week, our community will complete more than 70 projects – collecting fresh produce, making care kits for those in need, cooking meals for members of the community, and much more.
As Rabbi Lord Jonathan Sacks, z”l, said, “To be a Jew is to be an agent of hope.” And through our collective efforts, we aren’t simply providing resources to our fellow community members in need, we’re providing hope for the future.
Whether you prefer to volunteer on your own or with others in your network, there are still a myriad of opportunities to give back through this Sunday. I encourage you to choose a project and join your friends, family, and neighbors in making a difference this Good Deeds Week.
Thank you for keeping the wellbeing of all those who need us at the forefront of your minds and your good deeds. I could not be more grateful to be part of this incredibly thoughtful, generous, and caring community.
Shabbat Shalom and Chag Pesach Sameach (Happy Passover),
