As families and individuals grow and transition to new stages of life, our Jewish community and shared values can serve as an invaluable source of comfort, inspiration, and connection.

From new to the neighborhood to new parents to newly retired and everything in between, Federation offers services and programs designed to ease these transitions.

Highlights of Federation-funded programs:

The ShalomBaby Program for New Parents
Maybe your family has recently grown by one or your friends are just about to welcome a new little one into their lives. ShalomBaby welcomes parents, their newborns and newly-adopted children into the Greater Washington Jewish Community. ShalomBaby provides you with:

  • A "ShalomBaby" gift bag, including parenting information, the ShalomBaby Resource Guide, Jewish resources and small gifts. 
  • A connection to other new parents through events, listservs, and playdates.
  • A connection to your Jewish Community and heritage.

The ShalomDC Program for those New to the DC Area
ShalomDC welcomes newcomers to the DC area and connects them with others new to DC. ShalomDC:

  • Sends welcome baskets to new Jewish residents of the Greater Washington DC area. The baskets offer goodies and community information.
  • Connects newcomers with the Jewish community.
  • Is open to anyone who has moved to the area within the last 12 months.

Locally, Federation also supports:

  • Jewish Coalition Against Domestic Abuse (JCADA)
    JCADA seeks to break the cycle of domestic violence through education, prevention and support programming.
  • Jewish Social Service Agency (JSSA)
    JSSA provides counseling, support groups, seminars, educational and career services, in-home support, hospice and nursing care and social services to families and individuals facing a range of personal challenges.
  • Jewish Council for the Aging (JCA)
    JCA offers seniors the tools they need to make informed decisions, socialize and care for their health.  Services include information resources, transportation, senior day care, and computer training.
  • Three area Jewish Community Centers (JCCs)
    Find out more about services provided, from camps to family programs, at the JCCs in DC, Maryland, and Virginia.
  • Jewish Foundation for Group Homes
    The Jewish Foundation for Group Homes provides support and services for adults with disabilities in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area.
  • Family Volunteering through the Jewish Volunteer Connection, now part of Jconnect.
