What is Israel in DC?
Israel in DC is a Federation initiative to strengthen local Jewish involvement with Israel and promote understanding of Israeli culture and community. It does this by:
- Developing meaningful Israel-oriented events and programming
- Encouraging Israel travel experiences
- Training professionals in Israel education and advocacy
- Integrating Israel into educational programs and lifecycle events
Israel in DC is sponsored jointly by The Jewish Federation of Greater Washington, the Jewish Agency for Israel’s Makom: Israel Engagement Network and the Partnership for Jewish Life and Learning.
Israeli Teacher of the Year
In November, 2011 the Jewish Federation hosted Omer Weisblum, the Israeli Teacher of the Year 2011. This prestigious prize is awarded yearly by the Israeli newspaper Yediot Ahronot to teachers who have shown exceptional quality in teaching and broader involvement in the life of their school. Omer, 34, is a dynamic Math teacher who won an additional award this year from the Technion Institute in Rehovot.
