Creating a Fulfilling Life for Young Adults with Autism
With the rise in diagnoses of autism spectrum disorders (ASD), it is clear that the 21st century will see many more adults with ASD living in the community. Many children with autism are eligible to receive special education services through the school system until age 21 -- but what happens afterward? As children with autism become adults with autism, we must think about meaningful ways to promote their interests, independence and participation in the workforce. Our conference will examine the numerous ways that communal infrastructures can support adults with autism in finding fulfillment and independence in their adult lives.
